Roi Roi Binale Shatters Records as Fans Celebrate Zubeen Garg’s Legacy with Sold-Out Shows and Early Morning Screenings

An emotional wave swept across Assam on Friday, , as fans gathered in overwhelming numbers to witness the release of Zubeen Garg’s final cinematic masterpiece, Roi Roi Binale. What was meant to be just a film premiere turned into a heartfelt farewell, with theatres across the state transforming into sites of collective remembrance and celebration.

From 4:30 a.m. screenings — a first in Assamese cinema — to packed auditoriums and teary-eyed admirers, the day marked both a cultural milestone and a poignant tribute to Assam’s most beloved icon.

Director Rajesh Bhuyan, speaking to India Today NE, shared, “This is the last movie in which Zubeen Da has acted. It was his dream to make a musical film — one filled with songs and soft romance, where people could sit together and enjoy. He had been planning this for 19 years. Today, that dream has come true with a pan-India release.”

He added that over 600 shows were screened on the first day alone, all of them sold out. “For the first time in Assam, a movie is being screened at 4:30 a.m. The love people have shown proves what Zubeen meant to us. He used to say, ‘Just see how big this film will become.’ I’m happy to see that happening, though deeply sad he isn’t here to witness it.”

Scriptwriter Rahul Gautam called Roi Roi Binale “a reflection of Zubeen’s soul.” He explained, “Everything about Zubeen Garg was positive — he always spread hope. This film was his dream, born almost 19 years ago. I began writing it in 2022, inspired by his ideology, his art, and his optimism. This isn’t just a movie — it’s a celebration of love between Zubeen and the people of Assam.”

Producer Shyamantak Gautam echoed the same sentiment, saying, “Even at 4:30 a.m., people waited patiently in the rain for the show to start. Zubeen wanted to elevate Assamese cinema — and today, that dream is being realized.”

According to Sourav Dutta, General Manager (Sales and Distribution) at UFO Moviez India, Roi Roi Binale marks the biggest release in Assamese cinema history. “Ninety-one screens across the Northeast and nearly 90 more across India are showing the film,” Dutta told PTI. “Almost all shows for the coming week are either sold out or filling fast. The demand is phenomenal, driven by the deep emotional connection people have with Zubeen Garg.”

He added that 14 additional screens are being added to meet the overwhelming demand, with new projectors being installed daily. “I’ve never seen such a response in my career,” Dutta said.

In a major leap for Assamese cinema, Roi Roi Binale is reaching audiences across Lucknow, Indore, Patna, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Kochi, Jaipur, Surat, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Coimbatore, and Goa — cities that have never before screened an Assamese-language film. There are even requests for international screenings, including in Nepal.

With Roi Roi Binale, Zubeen Garg’s legacy continues to unite hearts, breaking barriers and setting new milestones — not just for Assamese cinema, but for the emotional bond between an artist and his people.
