In a surprising political move, Rajen Gohain Resignation, marking the end of an influential chapter in Assam’s BJP leadership.
Former Union Minister and 4-time Lok Sabha MP of the BJP, Rajen Gohain has resigned from the primary membership of the party and all party responsibilities with immediate effect today.
He submitted his resignation letter to the party’s state president, Dilip Saikia.
Gohain has accused the party of failing to live up to its commitments to the people of Assam and betraying the trust of indigenous communities by allowing outsiders to settle in the state, reported PTI.
Rajen Gohain has been associated with the party since 1991.
He had represented the Nagaon parliamentary constituency since 1999, winning re-elections in 2004, 2009, and 2014.
On July 5, 2016, Gohain was inducted into the Union Cabinet as the Minister of State for Railways.
