PM Modi Inaugurates Redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his 11th visit to Tripura since 2014, inaugurated the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple complex in Udaipur, Gomati district, on Monday. The project marks a significant boost to Tripura’s spiritual, cultural, and tourism landscape, reinforcing the Centre’s ongoing focus on Northeast development.

Arriving in Agartala after a visit to Arunachal Pradesh—where he laid foundation stones for hydropower projects worth ₹3,700 crore—the Prime Minister flew to Udaipur by helicopter to inaugurate the 524-year-old Shakti Peetha. The temple has been redeveloped under the PRASAD scheme (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive).

The redesigned complex retains its distinctive tortoise-shaped architecture, now enhanced with new pathways, renovated gateways, modern drainage, and a three-storeyed facility that includes a meditation hall, guest accommodations, administrative offices, and shops for local artisans.

Performing puja on the first day of Navratri, PM Modi prayed for the nation’s prosperity and praised the project for preserving cultural heritage while integrating modern amenities, positioning Tripura as an emerging spiritual tourism hub.

A 12-km roadshow from Palatana helipad to the temple drew thousands of people amid tight security arrangements across West Tripura, Sepahijala, and Gomati districts. The Prime Minister also offered prayers at a nearby Kali temple before his departure.

Chief Minister Manik Saha described the redevelopment as a “historic milestone” for the state. The Congress, however, criticized the event, alleging that opposition leaders were excluded from the official programme.

In addition, PM Modi inaugurated and dedicated projects worth over ₹5,100 crore across Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to balanced regional growth in the Northeast.

Social media platforms were flooded with images and videos of the event, reflecting widespread public enthusiasm and cultural pride over the temple’s revival.
