NDPP-NPF Merger Sealed: Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio Announces Historic Political Move 2025

NDPP-NPF Merger

NDPP-NPF Merger marks a historic step as CM Neiphiu Rio aims to unify Nagaland’s regional forces for stronger governance and stability.

In a historic political development, Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio has officially announced the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with the Naga People’s Front (NPF), marking the end of the NDPP and a symbolic return to his political roots.

Speaking at the 6th General Convention of the NDPP, Dr. Rio described the merger as both “historic” and “divinely ordained,” saying it represents a shared vision of unity and commitment to the Naga people.

“This merger is not just a political step; it is a commitment to a shared vision,” Rio said. “We are not here to preserve personal legacies. We are here to uphold the legacy of the Naga people.”

Calling the move a “homecoming” to his parent party, Dr. Rio addressed concerns about the NDPP’s legacy, emphasizing that unity and the Naga cause outweigh individual recognition.

“I am not fighting for my legacy. I am fighting for the legacy of the Nagas,” he reaffirmed.

Reflecting on the NDPP’s journey, Rio praised its rapid growth and political success — from securing an absolute majority to leading an opposition-less government in the state. He credited the party’s achievements to the dedication of grassroots workers and leaders like Chingwang Konyak (President) and Abu Metha (Secretary-General), acknowledging their contributions and sacrifices.

“We built the NDPP from scratch into a force that shaped Nagaland’s political future. That success belongs to every worker, every supporter, and every leader,” he added.

Dr. Rio also revealed that he recently visited former Chief Minister and NPF President Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu along with Minister K.G. Kenye — a gesture symbolizing reconciliation and unity for the greater good of the Naga people.

The Chief Minister shared that despite a long-standing legal case against NDPP’s registration, the merger was completed without liabilities, as the case was dismissed following the petitioner’s passing — something Rio described as “divine intervention.”

“It is beyond our comprehension. It is divine intervention,” he remarked.

Concluding his address, Dr. Rio urged all party members and citizens to come together in the spirit of unity, determination, and cultural pride, to build a stronger, united, and prosperous Nagaland rooted in the NPF’s founding principles — preserving Naga identity, culture, tradition, and customary laws.

“Let us walk together — united, determined, and inspired by the dreams of generations before us,” he said, calling for a renewed collective journey under the NPF banner.
