Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed serious concern over the lack of cooperation from members of the Assamese community in Singapore in connection with the ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of the state’s beloved cultural icon, Zubeen Garg.
Addressing the media on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that the investigation is facing challenges due to the absence of key individuals currently residing in Singapore. He stressed that their cooperation is crucial for uncovering the full truth behind the incident.
“I am now concerned if the people of the Assamese community in Singapore will return to Assam and cooperate in the investigation. The Assam Police have already taken action against those within reach in India, including Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Siddharth Sharma, Shyamkanu Mahanta, and Amritprabha Mahanta. But those in Singapore are outside Assam, and bringing them here by law is a different matter. I can only request their cooperation,” Sarma said.
The Chief Minister revealed that several Assamese individuals in Singapore have written to the state government explaining their inability to return at present. However, he emphasised that their physical presence and cooperation remain vital to complete the probe.
Sarma urged the people of Assam to appeal to the families of those abroad, encouraging them to return and assist investigators.
Responding to Shekhar Jyoti Goswami’s claim that Zubeen Garg was poisoned, the Chief Minister said that the police are carefully documenting every witness statement in the case diary, irrespective of its nature.
He further informed that the viscera examination report of Zubeen Garg is expected to be available by October 10, and the full details of the findings will be known by October 11.
