Historic moment: James PK Sangma Elected President of Meghalaya Cricket Association on 21st Dec.

James PK Sangma, the former state cabinet minister, has been elected as the new president of the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) and will be in charge of cricket in the state in a very critical phase of the sport. The elections came after the Apex Council Elections that took place on the 21st of December.

James PK Sangma’s background as a politician and well-known personality in Meghalaya comes in handy, considering his past involvement in the government of Meghalaya as a cabinet minister, among other positions. His background is valued in terms of his experience in governance and development efforts, most of which he has utilized in his current position in cricket administration. The requirement for the development of cricket in Meghalaya has thus changed in respect to enhancing governance and development.

Together with James PK Sangma, the newly constituted Apex Council includes Vice President Rajiv Bareh, Honorary Secretary Rayonald Kharkamni, Honorary Joint Secretary Mebanphira Swer, Honorary Treasurer Eddystone Shylla, and Member of the Apex Council Chuba R. Marak. The establishment of the Apex Council has ensured the representation of delegates from different districts of the Meghalaya zone in the council which is imperative for the equal growth of the sport of cricket in the zone.

The election process went as per a planned transparency process. The election process included the publication of a notice regarding the election on November 19, then the publication of the electoral rolls on November 27. The nomination papers by the candidates were submitted on December 1, and all candidates were found to be valid. A candidate withdrew on December 2, to make room for Sangma’s election, as it was an unopposed election.

Commenting on his win in the election, James PK Sangma has shown his gratitude and willingness. He mentioned that he is “honoured and humbled to be elected as President of the Apex Council of the Meghalaya Cricket Association” and that he is cognizant of the fact that he has a “responsibility that comes with this mandate.” James PK Sangma also repeated his willingness to support his “vision of transparent governance, better infrastructure, and opportunities for our young cricketers in Meghalaya.”

Nevertheless, he also wanted to “move ahead together with the MCA family and the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and with everyone in our endeavour to take cricket forward in our state at all levels.”“The elections are conducted in a completely transparent, free, and fair fashion, as per the rules and procedure of the BCCI, keeping in mind the guidelines laid down in the Election Commission of India Act, as well,” said the electoral officer in charge of the entire proceedings.

The Meghalaya cricket team has been slowly developing, but it faces some issues, such as the absence of training facilities, infrastructure, and the need to nurture grassroots talents. The appointment of Sangma as the head of cricket in Meghalaya has been hailed as one of the steps taken to improve the Meghalaya cricket team because he will work towards developing cricket in Meghalaya to get the attention of the entire nation.

The Apex Council under the period of James PK Sangma is expected to focus on different areas such as the organization of Local Level Tournaments, improvement of coaching and training facilities, development of Cricket grounds, and making governance smooth and transparent.

As an administrative handler, it is expected of Sangma to have better coordination with BCCI, ensure resource allocation for development activities, and ensure that the state, Meghalaya, is an important part of national-level cricket. The election of James PK Sangma, in a way, involves politics and cricket administration in order to revitalize the game of cricket in the state of Meghalaya. A new beginning with significant importance has been introduced in the MCA by the leadership of Sangma.
