Six Militants of Banned Outfits Arrested from Manipur’s Imphal Valley Districts

Six militants belonging to different banned outfits have been arrested from three districts of Manipur’s Imphal Valley, police said on Sunday.

According to officials, one active cadre of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was apprehended from Kumbi Bazar in Bishnupur district on Friday, September 26. He was identified as Nongmaithem Gyaneshwor Singh (49), who allegedly provided logistical support to the organisation, an official statement said.

Another active PLA cadre, Laishram Jiten Singh (56), was arrested from Lamdeng Mayai Leikai area in Imphal West district on Saturday, September 27.

Police also arrested Moirangthem Chaobi Singh (50), another PLA member, from Khurai Konsam Leikai in Imphal East district. He was reportedly involved in instigating a mob against security forces in the past.

In a separate operation, a woman cadre of the proscribed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) was arrested from Mantripukhri Friends Colony in Imphal East district. She was identified as Khaidem Sunila Devi (55).

Additionally, two active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) faction were nabbed from their respective residences at Lilong in Thoubal district and Naorem Leikai in Imphal West district on Saturday. They were identified as Md Mujibur Rahaman (44) and Sorenshangbam Bungcha (44).

A .32 pistol with a magazine was seized from their possession, police added.
