Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday expressed her anguish over the demolition of the house of Padma Shri awardee and Olympian Mohammed Shahid in Uttar Pradesh, carried out as part of a road project.

Mufti shared a heartbreaking video from Varanasi in which Shahid’s elderly father is seen standing before the demolition squad, hands folded and voice trembling, pleading for just one day to save the home.

“While Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice B.R. Gavai speaks of India being governed by the rule of law, not the rule of the bulldozer, this video tells a different story. No one is listening. If this isn’t bulldozer justice, then what is?” she said.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism, with many questioning the timing and manner of the demolition against a family of national sporting recognition.
